EnRoute stands for Enhancing Resilience of urban ecosystems through green infrastructure. EnRoute is a project of the European Commission in the framework of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and the Green Infrastructure Strategy. EnRoute provides scientific knowledge of how urban ecosystems can support urban planning at different stages of policy and for various spatial scales and how to help policy-making for sustainable cities. It aims to promote the application of urban green infrastructure at local level and delivers guidance on the creation, management and governance of urban green infrastructure. Importantly, it illustrates how collaboration between and across different policy levels can lead to concrete green infrastructure policy setting.

Make London, greener, healthier and wilder.
A nice example of a community-grassroots initiative to make London greener. This website is worth exploring to find ideas for bottom-up initiatives that you can take in your city as well.
Stockholm integrates urban green infrastructure and ecosystem services in the new city plan
Stockholm adopted a new urban plan. Making use of the assets that the city’s green spaces represent and developing parks and areas of countryside is an intrinsic part of the plan. As Stockholm’s population grows, initiatives are needed to improve the city’s green spaces, make them more accessible and add additional new parks. The plan contains more details of how to deploy Stockholm's blue green infrastructure, create a network of habitats for specific species and enhance urban ecosystem services.

How to measure the condition of urban ecosystems? Here is an innovative approach tested in Karlovo (Bulgaria), one of the EnRoute city labs
This paper published by Bulgarian scientists in One Ecosystem explains how a combination of in-situ inspections of individual urban trees and observations based on remote sensing of urban vegetation can help assess the health of urban ecosystems. Both methods are applied to different urban green spaces in Karlovo and deliver an insight on the vitality of the tree communities in the city.
Survey: Understanding the Science-Policy-Interface in planning urban green infrastructure projects
Do cities use science when planning for infrastructure projects? Do scientists share their knowledge with urban policy makers? Do urban policy makers know the functions of nature in the city?
We need to know so here you can participate to our short survey on science policy interface on urban green infrastructure.
The survey is available in several languages.
5th MAES report on ecosystem condition is out.
The fifth MAES report presents indicators for mapping and assessment of ecosystem condition at European level. A set with specific indicators is available for assessment of ecosystem condition per ecosystem type. A core set with key indicators is available to support an integrated ecosystem assessment across ecosystem type.
The report contains an update of the indicators which measure the condition of urban ecosystems.
EnRoute progress report is available.
Here is a link to the EnRoute progress report.
The report contains a set of policy questions collected by the 20 EnRoute city labs with respect to urban green infrastructure and identifies which indicators of the MAES analytical framework can be used to support local policy.
The report also describes the datasets and models that will be used for an EU wide assessment of urban ecosystems and their services.
The report contains a first proposal for an online survey on the functionality of...
